Hipocratic medicine was non-invasive and treatments were gentle. Unlike the majority of today's physicians, Hippocrates was reluctant to administer drugs and engage in specialized treatment that might prove wrong and would ultimately harm a patient. Potent drugs were used only when absolutely necessary.
Today new doctors still swear to some form of the original Hippocratic oath - "I will prevent disease whenever I can for prevention is preferable to cure". Even though this was originally stated in the 4th century BC, Hippocrates knew then that the emphasis on medicine should be on prevention.
Unfortunately, modern medicine seems more focused on treating the symptoms of disease in an attempt to cure existing problems rather than in preventing illness through proper care. Natural health treatments seek to treat the body as a whole rather than merely any one part that is displaying disease.
